Oil on canvas whose inscription «D. Miguel de Ceruantes Saauedra» confirms that the person portrayed is the writer. He is depicted as an elderly man, with practically white hair and beard, an elongated pale ashy face, a wide forehead and an aquiline nose (as described in the Prologue to the Exemplary Novels). He is dressed in a black suit and ruff. Copy of the attributed portrait of Juan de Jáuregui that is exhibited at the Royal Spanish Academy.
